Southern California’s Avocado Heritage Is Disappearing. Here’s How You Can Help Protect It.

For generations, Southern California has been home to what many consider the world’s finest avocados—renowned for their creamy texture, rich flavor, and unmatched freshness. But today, that legacy is under real threat.

Once a thriving agricultural landscape, avocado groves have been shrinking at an alarming rate. Since 2008, local avocado acreage has dropped by nearly 47%, largely due to skyrocketing water costs and mounting pressures from wholesale markets. These economic challenges have forced many family-owned farms—some of them stewarding the land for decades—to scale back dramatically or shut down altogether.

At the same time, the U.S. avocado market has undergone a dramatic shift. Nearly 90% of the avocados consumed in the United States now come from imports, making it even harder for small local growers to compete and maintain the region’s farming traditions.

Yet despite these challenges, Southern California’s organic avocado heritage doesn’t have to disappear.

Our Family’s Commitment to Protecting Southern California’s Avocado Legacy

Our family has always deeply valued local farmers, but it wasn’t until we purchased our own avocado orchard that we truly understood what it takes to grow this fruit. Every day, we see the dedication, the hard work, and the challenges that farmers face—from rising water costs to market pressures that threaten the future of local agriculture.

As Christians, we believe that God has given us both the desire and the responsibility to steward the land. This orchard is more than a farm to us—it’s a place where we live out our calling to care for His creation. Staying connected to the soil, the trees, and the work required to sustain them is our way of honoring that responsibility.

Stepping into this world has transformed our family. We spend a great amount of time studying sustainable farm practices, researching how to protect avocado groves, and exploring solutions that can keep this historic industry alive. What began as appreciation has grown into passion: a mission to help address the avocado economic crisis and safeguard this iconic part of our homeland’s heritage.

How You Can Make a Difference

By choosing to support a direct-to-consumer relationship between farm and table, you play a vital role in preserving Southern California’s avocado legacy. This model allows local farmers to bypass the pressures of wholesale markets, receive fair pricing, and continue tending to the groves that define our region’s agricultural identity.

And the benefit isn’t only for the growers—you also receive the highest-quality fruit available. When you choose to buy from our family farm, you’re enjoying organic avocados at their very best—picked at just the right moment, naturally flavorful, and grown with care for the land.

Together, we can keep Southern California’s farming heritage alive for future generations.
