Since 2008, local avocado acreage has dropped by nearly 47%, largely due to skyrocketing water costs and mounting pressures from wholesale markets. These economic challenges have forced many family-owned farms—some of them stewarding the land for decades—to scale back dramatically or shut down altogether. 

At the same time, the U.S. avocado market has undergone a dramatic shift. Nearly 90% of the avocados consumed in the United States now come from imports, making it even harder for small local growers to compete and maintain the region’s farming traditions. 

Yet despite these challenges, Southern California’s organic avocado heritage doesn’t have to disappear.

Our family has always deeply valued local farmers, but it wasn’t until we purchased our own avocado orchard that we truly understood what it takes to grow this fruit.
